Members of LinkedIn share their big ideas for 2018.
“Thank you for taking the time to share thought-provoking ideas and engage in conversations. The professional community benefits from insights and perspectives from people like you.”
It’s that time of year when predictions are made about the following year. Will it be Artificial Intelligence, Chatbots, Cryptocurrency, Automation, Net Neutrality, Agility, Customer Experience, Regression? LinkedIn asked what ideas would shape our industry’s and workplace. Individuals across industries and around the globe weighed in and below are randomly selected predictions from a LinkedIn post for Big Ideas heading into 2018. I found it interesting that in light of the move toward AI and automation, many predictions focused on human-centric themes. It is fascinating to read what others are seeing in their respective industries from insurance to oil and gas. What would you add?
Beyond the mediums, methods and tactics we use to communicate, I predict that there will be a shift in conversation toward substance (and away from rhetoric and vanity….) #hopeful#BigIdeas2018
It will be no surprise if Data Science dominates the discussions in 2018. I also think that there will be a focus on back-to-basic topics such as Corporate Ethics, Human-Centered Management and Values more than ever. Perla Asistin, MDC, CSSBB
My #BigIdeas2018 for digital payments is SECURITY: the ever growing need to protect consumers and businesses against unsavoury actors, by weaving biometry, using AI and collaborating across industry and governments to create a bulletproof digital identity framework. Daniel Kornitzer
The disruption of health. Disruption means preventing things from continuing as usual, and if there ever was an area in need of disruption, it’s health. Innovative new technologies such as fitness wearables and apps offer great potential to change health for the better in the low-income communities we serve. Manuela Boyle PhD MHSc
From my point of view, what I see a disillusionment will happen in terms AI and IoT. As many people are talking and making it a buzzword, everyone is focusing on ‘what’ and some are focusing on ‘How’ but very few are focusing on ‘why’. AI and IoT will make our life faster, easier but will it make simpler? I guess ‘no’. Besides, it will strengthen the domination of the sophisticated class of the world. Can AI or IoT create big impact in the third world countries? Will they be really able to accelerate growth and development in a considerable way? I don’t they will! That’s why, I think 2018 will be the year of disillusionment for AI and IoT and a newer set of thoughts will arise. Muzahidul Islam Jahid, SPHRi
This past year, I made an effort to pay attention to some younger professionals, in our industry, and I have discovered some exceptional talent, that I can learn from and work with! Stay young, is vital to been relevant! Frank Marrone
I expect to see big changes in blockchain technology and it’s use in financial services industry. Dramatic changes are already happening in crypto currencies and probably this segment will explode with big impact on the currencies markets. I foresee a lot of frauds, scams and hacks in cryptos, facts that will bring in heavier control from regulatory authorities. Eventually, the market will clear up from fraudulent and over excited investors and transparency will prevail ! Haris Constantinou “Cyprus Forex Markets”
Bitcoin, Clickbait, Blockchain, Drones, IOT, AI, Growth, Change, Trump, Giving, Taking, Big Data, Digital, Mobile, India, China, Profitability, Autonomous Cars, Automation, Service, Crypto Currency, Cyber Security, Cyber Bullying, and many, many more. I went through hundreds of posts, some of which had amazing thoughts and ideas. Although nobody really knows what will happen in 2018, it is fun to play the guessing game. However, there is one thing in common with all the above: none will actually help me spend more time with my kids next year. I know, it’s not that big of an idea but I think it’s probably one of the most challenging ones on the list which no App nor Drone can do for me. #BigIdeas2018 : spend more quality time with the family. Gilad Liptz
For me, 2018 has got to be about bringing the human back into human resources – within a context of ever more computerised / digitalised world. From AI to “Hey, aye”! From face in phone to face to face! Making artificial intelligence more emotionally intelligent. That’s my goal for 2018. Paul Deemer
The more I work with customer experience strategies the more I’m convinced that it is the best starting point for developing business in general. For example digitalization, AI, chatbots and analytics should always be looked form the client’s perspective: “How can we make CX easier by this? How can we generate a positive memory traces by using this? Does this new way of doing things generate more promoters?” etc. Another important thing to remember is that the customer is not on a one customer journey in one channel, but he or she is on many journeys simultaneously and usually uses multiple channels for getting things done. The businesses that first really get to know, measure and develop this multi journey path of customers will be the true winners in their business. What we usually see is a channel focused measurement done either to existing clients or non-recognized users in web, but not generating a single view of the whole journey from the beginning. Pasi Brusi
Because of the recent attack on NET neutrality and success of distributed and community-based projects like BitCoin, peer-to-peer mesh networks using smartphone-based apps and router based apps will start emerging on the market. Branislav Cika
#BigIdeas2018 Prediction to my field is: UN is going to shrink down, but the rest of development sector would be the same. My idea for 2018 is to be human than robotic. Kainat A.
Industrial Revolution 5.0 must be the circular economy. More companies and entrepreneurs need to see the commercial opportunities inherent in producing materials which can be reused rather than producing waste for landfills or incinerators. This is really all about the sustainability of our species and our planet. Victor Mills
Building trust into your media brand is going to come back in a big way and channels are going to come to the realization that the only way to do that is the old way – by separating reporting and opinion clearly and explicitly. The automation of everything approacheth. Prepare for a post-work world. I have no idea how that’s going to look. I wouldn’t want to be a trucker right now. Patrick Flannery
Tech giants, Amazon, Google, Apple, Facebook are collecting huge amount of data and I feel our privacy is at risk. Anti trust laws should be reviewed in this new disruptive era where these companies can basically know everything about us and use the golden nuggets as a barrier for other much smaller companies to enter their market. Most of the regulatory and competition schemes were drafted more than a century ago and are obsolete now. We need new monitoring mechanisms and antitrust laws to protect consumers’ privacy against those powerful companies. Karym Bentebbal
#BigIdea2018 will be behavioral economics seen as a necessary and commonplace tool and technique used by companies in all industries. Michele Wille
2018 promises to be yet another exciting year in the legal field, especially at the intersections of the law, politics and technology. Artificial Intelligence will continue to make inroads at law firms, and virtual reality may find its way to jurors in a courtroom. Self-driving cars and autonomous driving features will breathlessly accelerate, forever changing our notions of cars, and with marijuana becoming legal for recreational use in California, this new industry will undoubtedly create opportunities for legal experts as new laws will be necessary for every aspect of our lives touched by this new field. #BigIdeas2018 Terence J. Murnin
Orbuculum sees three certainties (as of this morning): one, society will grapple with whether we want mediators or not. On the one hand, blockchain and similar technology reflect an urge to cut out the middle man. On the other hand, we’re asking Facebook and Twitter to curate for us. Two, individuals will learn a lot more about what the marketplace thinks of them. Europe’s GDPR requires companies dealing in personal data to be transparent. Three, in search of fairytales to counter the massive human transgressions coming to light these days, we glom onto Harry and Meghan for hope. Bonus: in industry, the year of mobile has passed, and the year of data driven decisions is here for brands. George Pappachen
Think about Hyper Converged Infrastructure can evolve your data center to take advantage of the digital transformation era. HCI will drive long-lasting changes to IT staff, servers, and storage architectures. The massive adoption of hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI), led by VMware vSAN, is driving momentous changes deep into IT organizations of all sizes Here are three specific trends I expect to see as HCI adoption races at a pace not seen since the early days of virtualization. 1. HCI Will Consolidate IT Staffs 2. The Resurgence of Rack Servers 3. New HCI Features Will Outpace Traditional Storage HCI is a core aspect of the data center to the cloud and in 2018, I’m expecting it will take center stage, particularly as the movement of data from physical storage into the cloud affects how we approach our IT strategy. Massimiliano Morlacchi
“People First Mindset” – The companies will need to be more human day after day. People is the most important patrimony for the companies and need a good environment to work better, with a good balance between Life and Work. People need to feel good to delivery good results. Renato Guimarães Neto
Is it really finding big ideas or isn’t it actually “finding big problems” in order to try fitting blockchain technology to that problem… distributed ledger might be good in a lot of areas but as everyone tries something I wonder if this is the right way as non-public or semi-public blockchain or where know-how or biz-processes are key to a single company I believe blockchain is just taken to ride the same wave rather than really having a need for it. Smart contracting will be the only area where I will spend time on. And sharing profit with those who have nothing is another big goal for us as we need to give back – sharing is caring. Atahan T.
I predict large changes in the way retail happens. Soon, everyone will be able to get the same products, for pretty much the same prices, and the same delivery service, either next day or sameday. This means that if this trend continues to carry on, brand loyalty will decline, but I think towards the end of 2018 we will start to see changes here. Shopping will become an experience. Gone are the supermarkets and retail stores etc that we see today, shopping will be something fun and interesting. I don’t exactly know how things will change, but they will, and I think those that are slow to take it up will suffer. The idea of charging for a coffee in the supermarkets will, I believe, be completely alien. We are going to go back in time – to getting out and visiting new, refreshed, fun and interesting stores. Toby Simpson
An Artificial Intelligence machine that will be able to predict 2018 big ideas. Arie Brish
